Here it is. The kickoff from the first album by the forgotten classic
rock and roll band. The Posies did a cover of this on a 7" once
(backed with Chris Bell's apres-Big Star "I Am The Cosmos") and they
got it down cold. The *voices* were the same. Anyway, a few notes:
1) What we have here in this song is a *lot* of guitars. Four, if I
count right. Because of this, I lose track of some of the guitars
in various points of the song (e.g., I don't know where the
acoustic is during the verses). I'm not making stuff up, so if it
looks like a guitar is missing in my transcription, it may be that
I can't pick it out. Which may mean that it's not there, but it
may not.
2) I was torn between two different versions of the opening/main
riff, but I think that both are actually played. The easy-to-play
version is on electric and the harder-to-play version is on
acoustic. I think. BTW, this riff has been used everywhere, from
just about any blues song (it's a fairly standard tunaround) to
Buddy Holly's "That'll Be the Day" to Cream's "I'm So Glad" to
Jesus Jones' "Right Here Right Now."
3) The intro speeds up. I don't know why. But it starts out
moderately slow the first time through the riff and then picks up
the second time through. I think it may also speed up at the end,
